The Practical Audio-Visual Chinese 2nd edition has been developed by the Ministry of Education of ROC, updated from “Practical Audio-Visual Chinese”, edited and written by the Editing and Compiling Committee of National Taiwan Normal University. The new version comprises a large-scale revision with regard to content, issue, lexicon, and up to date ways and practices.

Meanwhile, the five major objectives of teaching this second language are designed to echo international Chinese teaching trends. These are incorporated within the teaching materials so that learning Chinese should no longer so difficult. It is thus considered to be the benchmark and practical learning material for domestic and overseas Chinese.

◎本書針對母語非華語的外籍人士，訓練學生的基本發音語法及常用字彙，透過系統性的引導，日常生活會話的練習，達到語言流利、溝通無障礙的效果，更能領略中華文化的特質。

◎書中所有生字與生詞例句，係採用注音符號、漢語拼音、通用拼音並列，以增加讀者多元的認讀方式。共分(一)(二)(三)(四)(五)五冊，包括課本、教師手冊、學生作業簿等教材，搭配語音輔助光碟(MP3)可單獨購買使用，未來陸續規劃DVD等影音輔助教材。

◎各冊重點：

．第一冊共12課，著重基本發音、語法及常用詞彙，已達到基礎生活華語溝通能力。

．第二冊共13課，延續第一冊實際生活用語，並達到使用流利華語，表達生動自然的語用技巧。

．第三冊共14課，著重大學校園活動與日常生活話題，加強各種話題表達技巧。

．第四冊共14課，介紹中華文化之社會、歷史、地理及人情世故，語法配合情境介紹，增強學習效果。

．第五冊共20課，介紹中華文化之特質及風俗習慣，包括民俗文化、傳統戲劇、文字、醫藥、科技、環保、消費、休閒等，提高學生對目前各類話題討論的能力。
